Known by various names like Tabbouleh, Lebanese Salad, Turkish Salad etc., Tabbouleh is a popular salad in Middle East, Brazil and other countries with Middle Eastern population. It has the honor of being named as Lebanon’s National Dish. There is various versions of this salad and here is one of my humble presentation of Tabbouleh. Great for health and popular with children in many countries.

Lebanese Salad or Tabbouleh Ingredients :

  • Crushed Wheat or Lapsi or Couscous – 1/2 cup
  • Parsley finely chopped – 1/2 cup (Optional)
  • Cucumber chopped – 1 cup
  • Tomato chopped – 1 cup
  • Onion Chopped – 1/4 cup
  • Mint Leaves finely chopped – 1 Tbsp
  • Lemon Juice – 1 Tbsp
  • Salt
  • Lettuce Leaves (Garnishing)
  • Vinegar – 1 tsp
  • Olive Oil or Salad Oil – 1 Tbsp
  • Pepper Powder – 1 tsp
  • Green Chillies finely chopped – 2 (Optional)

Lebanese Salad or Tabbouleh How to Prepare:

1) Soak Lettuce leaves in Vinegar, Salt and water. Keep in a refrigerator for about half an hour so that the leaves look fresh while garnishing (you can make out from the photograph that I have not used Lettuce leaves here for garnishing).

2) Place the broken/crushed Wheat in a bowl of hot water and soak it for 1-2 hours. Then drain away the water and squeeze till dry. Spread the soaked Wheat on a thin Muslin cloth so that the cloth absorbs the water content from Wheat.

3) Pour broken Wheat into a bowl; add chopped Tomatoes, Onions, Cucumber, Parsley, Lemon Juice, Salt and toss well. Keep aside until you are ready to serve.

4) Just before serving, add Olive Oil, Mint leaves and Pepper Powder to the Salad mixture from Step 3.

5) Spread Lettuce Leaves in a serving bowl. Arrange the Lebanese Salad or Tabbouleh from Step 4 on Lettuce Leaves and Serve.

You can have this healthy salad as your breakfast dish or your family dinner time dish.

  1. This is invalid and disgusting. Tabbouleh isn’t made this way!
The only things in the whole dish you have right(as far as ingredients your measurements are way off) is the parsley, olive oil, tomatoe, salt and pepper.
This is the worst tabbouleh recipe I have ever seen

  2. Hi hema mam,
I got to know about your blog just a few days ago. Your recipes looks great. And Today for the first time I am going to try Lebanese salad, so could you tell me what is broken wheat called in Kannada? Or if we can prepare it at home?

    • Lebanese Salad is very tasty and healthy. Broken wheat or cracked Wheat in Kannada is Godhi Kadi or Kuttida Godhi. It is normal Wheat crushed into small pieces. Many varieties of dishes can be prepared using Broken Wheat, like Godhi Kadi (Broken Wheat) Payasam, Upma, Pulao etc. Hope this helps.
